Editing

I’ve been editing other people’s writing ever since my newspaper days. It’s a real art to take someone else’s work and enhance it, maintaining their style while improving the flow and rhythm, as well as ensuring consistency and eliminating any mistakes.

I generally edit for academic clients with a good standard of English, ensuring that their work can be published in English language journals, although I also revise colleagues’ translations.

It’s always useful to have a good knowledge of the native language of the writer or original language of the text concerned because it makes it possible to spot common mistakes and mistranslations, but I’m just as capable of editing copy written in English by a native speaker, as I used to when I worked in journalism.
